  4. Ed Says:

This morning I de-iced the car and made my way over to Solihull for the morning Boot Camp session in Fitness First with Dave.

One hour of pad work - heaven! Well maybe a bit if hell too.

It was a small group so no place to hide and we must have done about 3,500 punches during the course of the hour along with some recognisable exercises that we have all come to know and love - squat thrusts, jumping squats, mountain climbers, burpees, press-ups to name a few.

We were vastly outnumbered by ladies which was probably a little unexpected but welcome ….. until thye started beating me at every exercise…. lol

It’s a few hours later now and I am still glowing warm as the blood rushes through my body and the aching is just kicking in. I really recommend a visit to this class if if have a free Wednesday morning.

And the final word from me for 2009 on this website….. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. :-)

  5. Garry Fox Says:

Well all I can say about this Saturday’s training was that it was sheer bliss.

Dear Ed, would you like to borrow my glasses or were you looking through a pair of binoculars up that slope.

Have lots of Chritmas Splender to all fit campers and a very big Happy Hi Di Hi to the New Year and may all the Easter Bunnies hop around the Christmas Tree.

Hello Miss Princess T, Isn’t Strickley Come Dancing just so Wonderful. Do you think the Fit Camp Instructors would teach some Ball Room or Salsa.

    Chou Bella.

    Garry.

  6. Ed Says:

This morning was deceptively tough on the legs.

We spent the hour running up and down an incline with various exercises at the top of the slope.

Looking up the slope, the sun was straight in our eyes. All I could see was the shadow of the chiselled, toned, youthful, statuesque, giant frames of Dave and Simon. When I got to the top of the slope and looked back at them I realised it was all just a trick of the light!

I arrived fashionably late to find a decent turn out for a frosty morning in Tamworth. We were outnumbered by the ladies today - where have all the tough guys gone now it’s an ickle bit chilly?

Those of you who have seen my previous blogs will realise I can’t run but after all the pad work on Wednesday I was glad to rest my arms. So it was loads of calfs, thighs and abs today. We were given an impossible task to complete…. impossible mainly ‘cos Dave and Si couldn’t even describe what we were supposed to do. I’ll bring crayons next time so we can draw diagrams! ;-)

I was also glad that we didn’t end up doing the press-ups on our partners knees as they were seated on the floor. With all that passing traffic and being in Tamworth I think we’d have some interesting offers from drivers who got the wrong idea!!! Still, there is a recession on and when needs must……… lol

I’ve just walked the dog and my legs are in bits. Hoping for more pad work on Wednesday. I am considering the morning session at Fitness First this Wednesday before embarking on that other competition sport of drinking on the evening. Either way, I am planning on doing something this Wednesday before the Xmas drink.

It was great atmosphere today. The Xmas spirit is kicking in and whilst we worked really hard we also maintained a good sense of humour too.

    See you on Wednesday…..

  7. Ed Says:

Well, I am just back from tonights training session!

I had contemplated not going as I was feeling unwell but, after checking with the tunnelling committee, it appears we have hit a stretch of bedrock and the anticipated breakout has now been postponed. So, there was nothing left but to don my training kit and muck in.

After a warm up, I partnered up with Ollie. Boy oh boy can that guy run, Tamworth’s very own Forest Gump, ‘run ollie run’. Sadly for Ollie but merrily for me, we ended up in the underpass just out of the rain and doing lots of pad work only interspersed with shuttle runs to the lights and back.

Xmas party’ing has seen my waistline increase again but the core feeling within myself is much improved. I had a moment of weakness on the drive home and actually caught myself pondering a route to go running in between boot camp sessions. I obviously chastised myself for such feckless thought patterns but more seriously it signals a very much improved level of fitness in such a short space of time - there’s just no way I’d have considered actually doing extra sesssions inb my own time until now.

The feeling of unwellness passed quickly during the start of the session and it’s worth recalling this for future reference as I could have easily ducked out and missed this great oportunity to meet pain and breatless exhaustion head on. ;-)

The diet is out of the window until after 1st January but the fitness levels need to be maintained. I might even just make a run or two between the sessions …. who knows I might even catch up with Ollie during a future run! (well we can all have our dreams, lol).

  8. Garry Says:

    Good Evening Ed.

Human Rights. Human Rights. Human Rights. Bless you.

Well, you should try the Susan Boyle and Shreddies Diet. It works you know.

As for two people posing as fitnss instructors, are you sure it was not the UFO Sightings over Staffordshire.

Not sure if I will be training this week as I have a bit of a poorly shoulder and bruised toe nail (right foot, big toe) from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on Sunday just gone.

Anyway, my Shreddies and Susan Boyle Diet is now calling.

    Ta Rar Dude.

  9. Josue Merrell Says:

I don’t use bar bells when I lift, but I still was able to use what you wrote and use it for my own use. I workout on the weight machines. One thing tht I realized a long time ago is that concentration is so important. I am not sure why not many people replied to this post. I just wanted to tell you that I agree with you. I appreciate the information, thanks.

  10. Ed Says:

    HELP ME!

I visited Tamworth Castle about a month ago and got kidnapped by 2 guys posing as training instructors. Since then they have made me endure punishment after punishment and my body has not stopped aching since I met them.

Take today for example. They made me run and run and run with squats, mountain climbers, jump squats, lunges and burpees in between - it hurt like hell. Still I did get to see the castle on the way.

If you are reading this I need your help. You can either come rescue me or join the group so I can blend in more to the background and they won’t see me taking a bit longer to catch my breath.

They are sadists. It must be illegal uinder some human rights legislation.

I am still wasting away and my clothes don’t fit any more. If I escape in time for Xmas I’ll ask Santa to get me a new wardrobe of clothing. The tunnel I am digging to get away won’t be completed before the next workout so I guess I will still be trapped on Wednesday and expected to run through the mud. As it’s Xmas I think I’ll be forced to drink with them too after the session….

Is there no end to this torture? …….. ;-)

  11. Katie Says:

James - Hi! How on earth do you know how many calories you’ve burnt? I need to know!

Dave and Simon, I thought last night was a great training session. Although I am quite weak at running I enjoyed trying to beat my time. I think I must have quite a competative streak! Well you definitely worked us hard as my body is pretty achey today.

Thanks guys and I’ll see you next Wed.

  12. james Says:

Hi Everyone… first time back in a couple of weeks, it was very tough it was good to do a bit of running, and leg and stomach work. I burnt 1600 Calories which I think is amazing… for an hours work. Well done chaps and well done to all at Fit Camp UK.

    http://www.cocoonfxmedia.co.uk

  13. Ed Says:

Last night was running, running, running…. my nemesis - ahhhh!!!

I have woken up with familiar aching pains but not as bad as previous sessions. Is that me getting fitter or the fact we concentrated on fewer muscle groups?

The Two Gates Gallop is coming and we have been told that training will focus towards running stamina / strength / speeds. So for this office boy, the move towards more running is going to be a challenge over the coming months.

I think I am just beginning to understand how Dave and Si organise the training sessions and why I have seen the results in myself so quickly. Something about the planes of movement and energy requirements. It’s almost like there’s some method to the madness and it’s not just made up as we go along - who’d have thunk it! ;-)

Saturday morning is looming up fast. I’ll try and soak in a warm bath to get the legs moving again in readiness for running sessions.

I am now off to find some bubble bath and only dream of more pad work……..

  14. Ed Says:

What can I say? I found Saturday tough… and muddy…. and wet…. but then anything worth doing in life takes effort so it’s already time to work up to Wednesday night. It was great though.

It was welcome back to Mark and a big thank-you to Dave for not allowing me to drop out of one of the shuttle runs by placing a few timely words in my shell like!

My weight has hit a plateau so now the real work begins, the muscles ache, the diet needs to be looked at, the clothing is better understood and Xmas looms ever closer but the road to getting fitter has begun.

    Can’t wait for Wednesday.

  15. Dirty Diana Says:

    Hiya everyone,
loved fit camp on sat, what can i say, ” Mud glorious mud, lots of water too, but we love fit camp so what do you do, get muddy and wet and muddy and wet and muddy and wet off course, sure beats been in doors. Ok have a great week everyone and see you all on sat.
    Dirty Diana x

  16. Garry Says:

    Good Morning Ed,

I wish I had your body to where one can shed the pounds, I only have to look at a finger of fudge, and I instantly put on three stone in weight.

Have you tried the shreddies diet - its wonderful that is if you like shreddies and Eddy Izard.

    Chow for Now,

Lots of Hugs to All. xxxx

  17. Ed Says:

Great training session last night. I think it was my 5th session and the first time that I feel I have really started getting to grips with the exercises - even the running which is my real nemesis was almost completed at a reasonable pace.

Big thanks from me to Geoff for partnering up with me. The weight continues to drop at a stratospheric rate. A slight change to the diet and the will to do a few sessions with Dave and Si has made a huge difference to my life in a very short space of time. Thanks for the mention above Garry, it’s nice for people to notice the flab dropping off.

I think last night the really great thing for me was to notice how all of us with our differing levels of fitness and abilities seems to have that one exercise where we seem to excel, sometimes you’re just hanging in there and others you’re clearly out in front. So much more pad work please as I love it and less running as I struggle! ;-) (Like that’ll happen).

I’ve rearranged a Xmas family get together this weekend in order to make Saturday’s training session (well I hear there’ll be another Xmas next year - you heard it here 1st). Looking forward to Saturday, bring it on!

  18. Garry Says:

A large lovely thanks to Dave and Simon for tonights training under the bridge. It was lovely but hard work. An extra special thanks to Ian as my training partner - you have a new nickname “Mr Motivator” - a big thanks again. Ed, as I havent been to fit camp for a while, I’m very impressed, you look like a new man, well done.
Lots of Love to All, Garry. XXX.

  19. clarkie0604 Says:

Did I say shattered??? I am aching all over now!! Is it normal to stalk around the house the day after Fit Camp like a 2-pin plug or some kind of random, and still a little too chunky, cardboard cut-out??? All I can really say is……………………GOLLY GOSH!!!!!! :) class - Nice one guys!

  20. Ed Says:

Ouch! This morning was tough going for this overweight office boy but I think most of it comes down to my state of health and lifestyle before I got there today.

I still really enjoyed it though. Lots of pad work today which I really do enjoy. There’s still a way to go for my recovery rates to pick up but I am soooo much fitter than 3 weeks ago, I am new person already.

I am going to use this blog as my own journal to track my progress and then any stalkers can see what I am up to too!

Those who know me best are commenting on how much better I am looking with increased energy levels (directly proportional to the amount of lactic acid aching!).

I have lost about half a stone now, still got the festive socials to wade my way through but the base levels are in place which bodes well for the continued efforts that’ll be required over the coming sessions.

I missed 2 shuttle runs today and sitting here now in the warm I realise you don’t get the chances back and it’s really time to make the most of each session. I want to look at ways to improve my running speeds and stamina levels - look at ways to train myself for training… :-)

All-in-all, I’m loving it, want more sessions and can really see a time when my fitness levels will be up to where I was over a decade ago. Fantsastic value and results.

  21. clarkie0604 Says:

Really enjoyed this morning’s Fit-Camp Lads and lasses :) I am soooo shattered now, but feel much better for doing it. Thanks Dave and Simon, You really motivated me today :)

  22. Tracey Says:

    Hi!! Brilliant session this morning!!
It was really cold and I was dreading the muddy field, but thankyou Dave and Simon for finding a dry undercover location!! The shuttle runs down to the KFC were good too!! Keep it up guys!!! See you next week!! Tracey x

  23. james Says:

Exellent session, first time back in 2 weeks, i really enjoyed it today… also we are now on myspace and twitter http://www.myspace.com/fit-camp-uk and twitter http://www.twitter.com/FitCampPrisoner back to the training I loved it! I love going under the bridge…..

  24. Ed Says:

Great session last night. It’s been a week for me since my last drubbing through the mud - in fact that’s got to be better theme for fit camp than ‘the new home gym is outside’ how about Fit Camp, drubbing through the mud, or chiselling in mud, or…. OK I’ll give it a rest now…

Anyhow, it was great. I’m still re-teaching myself to run again which invariably leads to me bringing up the rear but it doesn’t matter as I am working hard and it’s showing. People who work for me have started commenting already and it’s only been a couple of weeks. I might start bringing in Fit Camp type working conditions to the workplace ie: you misfiled that record, drop and give me 100 push-ups. Look out for the tribunal in the newspaper! It’ll get the big cat sightings out of the Tamworth Herald.

I’m really enjoying the sessions. There’s no prescribed format so it takes me just outside of my comfort zone each time I attend; combine that with a team attitude to push me further each set of exercises and I believe that’s what is making the difference. Then there’s the running. There’s not loads of it but it’s my nemesis. After years of gym based activity (plus a good few years of inactivity) I think I am having to remind a few muscles groups how to run forwards instead of running but still only going at a walking pace!

I am working on getting 2 people down next Wednesday with me + possibly the neighbour too to make 3! That way I can hide in the crowd. :-)

  25. maria j Says:

    fit camp rules! enough said.

  26. Gi Si Says:

what a superb turn out wednesday night was.. the theme of fit camp is ‘ the new home gym is outside’ you just need to know how to do it.. Fit Camp exists for the people, you guys make it & I have never been so proud of training people in my entire life than i am right now.. Fit Camp Rules.. nice one squad

    Gi Si x

  27. Ed Says:

I’ve just completed my 3rd session and what a fantastic session it was.

I loved the roof of the ‘gym’ last night… most would call it an underpass but they’re just trying to play down the superb facilities.

I’ve woken today feeling OK, not aching to a point where I want to lie down in a hot bath all day, but still know I have worked hard.

I have lost 5lbs in 3 sessions! I can’t think of anywhere else that I can do that. 3 hours is nothing for the returns that have been achieved.

Last night was alot of pad work and it really took me back to my kickboxing days of olde… (the older I get the better I was).

Christmas is coming and the Ed is getting thin…. I reckon the next 6 weeks will see me lose another 6-8 lbs. Aiming to lose a total of 12lbs by the time the turkey hits the table.
    Ed.
PS Jeff, thanks for your efforts with me last night making sure I kept pushing on to the end of each set.

  28. Leigh Says:

Fantastic session guys, it went way to fast. Ive noticed alot of improvement in my fitness since i started Fit-Camp, ive even took up running more and managed to run almost 13miles in 1hour and 40 mins, without the support of GI Dave, GI Simon and the rest of the prisoners I wouldnt have been able to do it. Thanks Guys…………

  29. james Says:

Very good session, nice to see of the originals back… I have not trained so hard in ages and the whether did not help…. but bring on Wednesday

  30. Ed Says:

I’ve got to admit that I didn’t fancy it much yesterday as I was still aching from Wednesday but I still dragged my ass over to Sutton for my 2nd session…. and I’m glad I did.

What a great turn out and nice to see that there’s a nice spread of ability and also ages (I reckon there was a 50 year spread in age group - this has got be unique) so I wasn’t on my own. A big thanks to Garry for spurring me on for a few extra reps throughout the session.

Not that many would notice yet but I’ve lost some of my waist already after just 2 sessions - this stuff really works.

Roll on more witty banter and hard work on Wednesday….

    Ed.

  31. Garry Says:

What an awsume training session on Wednesday and so sorry for being very windy, it was my garlic salad that I had the night before.
Thank you Ed for your very nice comment and it was a real pleasure to train with you - it was down to Team Work and that’s what I love about the Fit Camp and that’s what makes it very special, (everyone helps each other and its wonderful).
Keep up the good work Ed, and see you on Saturday at 1000hrs hours.
(Please can we have a fancy dress training session Dave and Simon - we could wear mankini’s in camourflage colour - of course).

    Ta muchly, Garry.

The true grit that you keep showing at each session Katie & Ian will pay didvidends in your future fitness .

Anyway troops seen you Saturday at Sutton park at 10am & don.t be late!!!!!

    Gi Dave & Si

  33. Ed Says:

    Hello All,

Thanks for the welcome last night.

My first fitness training session in almost a year and glad I have stumbled across Fit Camp UK, then glad I stumbled through a session with Fit Camp UK and then stumbled out of bed this morning thanks to Fit Camp UK… :-) I can’t see me going back to a gym ever again at this rate….. only ‘cos I can’t walk yet. lol

Thanks to Garry for guiding me, the new boy, through the session.

My aching body allowing, I will be there on Saturday, studying the fawna and flora of Sutton park at soil level whilst concentrating on the basics … breathing for oxygen, check my lungs are still in my body, trying to recall my name, trying to remember what the next exercise is.

It was great fun. Really impressed how friendly the group is and how accomodating for newcomers. Dave kept on eye on me throughout so that I never overdid it for the first session. I just want my fitness levels to get up there with the rest of the group now and get really stuck in.

Hope to see you all again Saturday.

    Ed.

  34. diana Says:

Absolute fantastic training session at Sutton Park today - ooh I feel energised. But can we do the “can can or the congor” around the cones next time.

I so love all the mud and water, can we make use of the stream.

It’s great to see Princess T back again.

    Have an awsume week.

PS: Can we do a session in fancy dress.

    Garry.

  36. Gi Si Says:

  37. Garry Fox Says:

Please keep up the Good Work for the Wedneday and Saturday Fit Camps. Can we have a Fit Camp in Fancy Dress, preferably in Pink.

    Garry.

  38. james Says:

Today the training was hard! I loved the pad work, it was hard and its an hour later and I am still sweating, and burning cals…. good jobs Dave and Si and well done to this weeks training partner Jack Hammer Jim for the rocky balboa punches, and the support…. Bring on Wednesday. By the way fit camp is on twitter http://twitter.com/FitcampPrisoner

  39. david hughes Says:

    Gi Dave

Hi there PRISONERS & Fitcamp Squadron!!!

Just like to say its a pleasure to see you guys & girls keep turning up week after week :)

Like Gi Si says Fitcamp is about all you prisoners giving it your all each week & not giving in on yourselves. Its not about being the 1st person back its about trying your best, because your best might be coming in last - but i assure you guys that each & every session that you come to Fitcamp - you will become fitter, more confident & achieve far greater things than just sittin on a bike in a local gym. fitcamp is about prisoners meeting up week after week, mingling in & moving & a grooving!!! See Gi Si i had to get that one in, anyway left knee raises lets go xx Sorry i go off on tangents :)

Anyway please keep coming back & spread the word as we want Fitcamp to become a Massive Social & Fun training enviroment rather than just people turning up at the gym & never mixing with other people. We want you to interact with different members & maybe arrange training sessions together - if your goals are similar.

Next year is going to be an exciting year with 5 different locations for you guys to train from on different days if you want to. We also will be doing a Fitcamp 3 peaks challenge next year, a marathon, we will also be sponsoring the Gate Gallop, which is Tamworth’s 10km cross country event aswell as various other events. SO KEEP COMING DOWN & LETS MAKE FITCAMP UK HERE TO STAY.

We will also be looking to take all you Saturday & Wednesday Fitcampers over to Sutton Park for a mixed session in the next couple of weeks.

Enjoy your week & see you all repoting for duty Wednesday & Saturday Gi Dave xxx

I also apologise for any spellin mistakkkks

  40. Princess T Says:

Simon and Dave, another GREAT session this morning at Sutton even if I did grumble about Simon’s exercise at the end……………. lying on ground lifting yourself up and sprinting!!! They really are a killer…………. Infact thinking about it, Dave, your squats weren’t very nice either!!! What is it with you 2 on a Sat morn :) Thanks again for all my aches and pains :) Princess T x

  41. Gi Si Says:

hi squad… Si here… just a quick note.. its an honour & a pleasure trainng you guys.. you guys make fit camp uk, there are lots of very nice things written about myself & dave but its us who should be thanking you.. without you guys there is no fit camp… i have never seen such a group of determined people as i do when i train you all… fit camp isnt about competing with other people, fit camp is about challenging yourself & each and every one of you do week in week out, that is the eye of the tiger.. people ask me what the eye of the tiger is…the eye of the tiger is looking deep into yourself when you feel you have nothing left to give & you want to give up and somehow finding the courage, grit & spirit to get back on your feet & carrying on, so in short the eye of the tiger is fit camp memebers … always follow the code of the road & never give in…

sorry for any spelling mistakes but spelling isnt my forte lol!!

    group hug !!

    Si x

  46. Jo Says:

    Hi Guys & Girls,

Had a great training session this week (Wed 7th Oct) found it very strenuous and thought it would beat me at times but the motivation by Dave & Simon keeps you going to the bitter end.

On weight loss, well never weigh myself but - have gone to the gym and attended class after class every week, for a few years now which I still do, but seemed to stay the same. Since joining Fit Camp however noticed things changing and tightening up and this week put on a pair of trousers not worn for while that used to fit comfortably, now, had to wear a belt just to keep them falling down which to me is a very big plus because I have an excuse for a new wardrobe. :-)

To anybody humming and arrring over to try it, give it a go, very differant to gym work and even PT sessions as the team atmosphere also keeps you motivated and laughing, even if you have no strength left to laugh.

Thanks Dave & Si and see you next week.

    Jo.x.

  47. diana Says:

hiya to all fellow prisoners who went to fit camp on sat,

Simon i just love the whistle can’t think how you coped without it, lol.

I haven’t been at fit camp for a few weeks….Today was my first day back..Dave and Simon made it comfertable for me and welcomed me back with open arms…They didn’t pressure me in any way….They let you go at your own speed…David and Simon are the most understanding intructor’s you will ever meet..I have a disibility which I can’t do things like everyone else…..Dave and Simon motivate you when you need it…They are fun to be with….It’s not like any old gym where you are waiting for a machine..You are included in everything fit-camp has to offer…You are among friends that never judge you or point fingers at you….They are there for YOU…..Anyone who wants to join should really do it as you will never exprience anything like Fit-Camp….Everytime you go no matter what day…They teach you different things so you are never bored doing the same routine as you would in the gym…I really enjoyed today as I feel i did really well….I have LOST 17Lbs in just a few weeks being with fit-camp….It goes to show you when you have the right people helping you…You can achieve anything…THANK YOU DAVE AND SIMON….xoxo

    Hi everyone !
Today’s temporary change of location was a good choice - well done ! Nothing stops ‘Boot Camp’ ! I found the session tough. Team spirit is great though and really encouraging. Really enjoyed it - thanks guys !

    Hiya Fit campers,
Keep on in there everyone, you all did very well today!!
Xtreme fit camp is definitely what it says on the tin, it was hard today but bloody brilliant at the same time. I really liked the bank work and at the end of the session felt like i had really worked out.

Im sure next week will be just as hard, in fact knowing Simon and Dave it will be harder, but bring it on!!! (I dont know weather i will be saying that in a few weeks from now) ha.
Ok, hope you all have a great week and see you saturday for more torture, sorry did i say torture i mean a good work out ha! x

seeing the fab 4 running down the field arm in arm like brothers in arms was immense… the competition between you guys reminds me of the competition Dave & myself have held for years.. there is only one person i want to beat & thats gi dave, yet there is only one person i want to beat me & that is gi Dave…i egg him on & he eggs me on… its a pleasure beating him but more of a pleasure when he beats me…you guys are the same….eye of the tigers!!!

thank you to all of the prisoners who turn up week in week out to train in a fun social way.. Gary Cook is a star in his ‘man from delmonte hat’..so is handy Andy who pushes himself to the limit week in week out…, tripod ‘right hook Tony’ who whacks his way through every session..Dirty Diana who always gives her best, lisa & vikki who trained their hearts out this week. Martin, Ian always up there, well done to jules for cutting back on her smoking.. well done to little sophie for eating properly before the camp this week fuelling herself well so she didnt have dizzy spells… Paul Lewis for giving his all again.. & to michael haskins who loves the camp that much he came down trained then went straight on his holidays … the list could go on and on.. well done to you all & thank you

GI DaveThe beasting was my pleasure, it was small repayment for the beasting you gave me the week before when i crawled out of your studio. your focus, attitude & shear grit in your trainig still makes you the one to beat…

Jumping James, what can i say..?? the work you have put in is something else buddy… the camp is better off for all of the support tools your putting in place.. your a mind of information when it comes to techy stuff.. cheers pal

    over & out
